Movie Review: Despicable Me
Hilarious, and almost endearing. It's fun for the family. My only "eh" is that stealing was never credited as wrong. Gru is a thief. He adopts the 3 girls as a means to steal something. He remains a thief. In the end, he's got this whole new family that he loves, but we never find out if he stops being a villain. This movie shows us that villains have hearts too (and mommy issues). This movie doesn't show us that what villains do is wrong. It's like villainy is their job and hey, that's just how it is. I don't like that message. On the plus side, Gru learns to love (becoming a loving father), his mother comes around (she used to make him feel worthless, but at the end she tells him that he's a good father), and the 3 orphan girls find the family they always wanted.
